The Craft of Better Espresso
This is a MADCHIEF 53.3 mm espresso tamper. It fits a 54 mm espresso ground cup so check your machine. This tamper is made with a wood handle and a stainless steel tamper head. It is quite substantial in weight and should last forever. It is easy to clean and does what is supposed to do well. The quality makes it a good value for the money. If you are an espresso drinker you know how important it is to pack your grounds in properly. This tamper will do that.

This is a well-crafted piece with great attention to detail, from the polished wood and engraved emblem to the plated metal tamper. Unfortunately, it didn’t fit my CasaBrews espresso machine and appears to be about 1/64” too large. That was my mistake for not checking the exact specifications beforehand (no deduction). It’s still a quality product and likely worth the extra cost if it fits your machine.
I really gave this a lot of opportunity to impress me but it never did. Hey, it tamps coffee I’ll give it that but so does the other 5 or so I have. It fits just fine in the portafilter basket and the finish is on the metal and wood is just ok. And that’s just it, it’s ok in every way. It never gives that feeling of wow is this ever nice, or gee that thing is gorgeous. But like I said it tamps coffee just fine. So for functionality it’s a 10 for fit and finish I’ll give it a 5. The one thing that does bug me a bit is I don’t know exactly how the metal was finished but it’s just got that inexpensive look to it. It’s never saying hey pick me up, and it’s the last one my eye goes to when I reach for a tamper.
